Configuring Your Camera

Configuring the Axis M1011w Wireless Camera for use with Swing At'em Products
Identify the camera's serial number.
This is printed on the back label just above the FCC compliance notice.  It begins with "S/N:" and is a 16 character number consisting of the digits 0-9 and the letters A-F.  Copy this number to a separate piece of paper so that you can refer to it during installation.
In the example below, the serial number is "00408CA619D6"
Figure 1.1 - Location of the Camera Serial Number
Initial Installation of the Camera
For the initial network configuration you'll need to connect the camera to a wired ethernet network with a local DHCP server.  Most home network routers will do this for you automatically but we can't give specific instructions because every router manufacturer has a different way of doing it.  See you router documentation for more information if you need it.
Power on the Camera
Connect the DC adapter to the camera and plug it in to a wall outlet.  The camera will initially display an orange status light around the lens.  The status light will change from Orange to Green when the camera if fully started and ready to use.
Identify the camera on the network
Simple Method
1. Open a web browser on any computer on the same network that your axis camera is connected to.
2. Visit the following address: "http://axis-[camera serial number]."  In my example I would visit http://axis-00408CA619D6
3. The browser should load a page prompting you to create a certificate or configure a root password.  If this worked, then skip the backup method below and proceed with the next section "Configure the Camera Root Password."
Backup Method
Refer to your router's documention and find the camera's IP address by examining the list of IP addresses currently assigned by the DHCP server.  Again, because every router is different, we can't offer specific instructions for this step.
Configure the Camera Root Password
The root password is the main password used to connect to the camera using a web browser.   Please select a password and enter it in the "Password" and "Confirm Password" fields, then press the "OK" button.
For cameras pre-configured by PEKO specifically for use with Swing At'em, the password will be the last 6 digits of the serial number.  In our example, we'd use the password "A619D6."
After you press "OK" you'll be prompted to log into the camera.  Use the password you just created.
The Camera Main Page
After logging in you'll see the camera's main page.  It will include the current video stream and a menu at the top right for "Live View," "Setup," and "Help."
Choose Setup to configure the camera.
Configuring the Camera for use with Swing Atem.
The following settings are our recommended settings and are what we use in our SwingAt'em Installations.  Depending on your network type you may choose to use other settings.  For example, if you have a nearby wireless network available you might choose to connect to that network instead of creating an ad-hoc network.  Be aware, though, that we have chosen the settings below because we have found that they work well in a variety of environments, so only deviate from these settings if you know what you are doing and are capable of troubleshooting any problems that may arise.
Basic Setup:
User Configuration:
1. Click the "Users" link in the menu on the left.
2. Ensure that the option to "Enable anonymous view login" is checked.
3. Press "Save"
Wireless Configuration:
1. Click the "Wireless" link in the menu on the left.
2. Create an SSID name.  Camera's pre-configured by PEKO will be given the name "SwingAtem-" followed by the last 6 digits of the serial number.  You may choose another name if you wish.
3. Ensure that the Network Type is set to "Ad-Hoc."
4. By default we do not use WEP or WPA security.  You're welcome to do so if you wish.
5. Press "Save"
TCP/IP:
There are two blocks of IPv4 settings.  The first is for wired networking ("Ethernet") and the second is for wireless networking.  We will only change the wireless networking IP settings.
1. Ensure that "Use the following IP Address" is checked.
2. Specify "192.168.100.1" as the IP address.
3. Specify "255.255.255.0" as the Subnet mask.
4. Leave the default router blank.
5. Press "Save"
Starting the Camera
1. Now, turn the camera off by removing the DC adaptor.
2. Remove the ethernet cable.
3. Turn the camera back on by connecting the DC adaptor.
4. When the camera ring turns green the camera is ready to use.
Configuring the iPhone or iPad for use with the Axis Camera
1. Open the "Settings" App
2. Select "Wi-Fi" settings
3. The network name (SSID) of the camera should be in the list of nearby networks.  If it is not, try waiting or turning wifi off, then on again on the iPhone or iPad.
4. Select the camera network name.
5. Tap the blue arrow at the right to get to the network settings.
6. Press the button titled "Static" to specify a static address.
7. Enter an IP Address.  If you only have one device to connect to the camera, just use "192.168.100.2".  If you will be connecting additional devices, such as another iPad or iPod you should assign a different last number for each device - for example, the next value could be "192.168.100.3"  Do NOT assign the same number to different devices or they'll be unable to connect to the camera.  It may be handy to keep a written list of numbers that have been assigned to devices.  The maximum number that can be used is "192.168.100.254"
8. Make sure that the subnet mask is "255.255.255.0"
9. Leave the router, DNS, and search domains blank.
10. Close the address settings
11. Verify that there is a check mark next to the swingatem camera network.
Enabling the camera in Swing At'Em.
1. Launch Swing At'em
2. Tap the Menu Icon at the bottom right
3. Choose "Settings" near the bottom right of the popup menu.
4. Slide the External Camera switch to the "On" position.
5. Slide the Simple Networking switch to the "On" position.
6. Tap "Done" to save your settings
You should now be able to activate the camera in Swing At'em using any of the recording commands.
Troubleshooting:
If Swing At'em cannot connect to the camera:
1. Sometimes iPad 3G devices will try to look for the camera over the 3G connection.  If this happens you can just turn the 3G data connection off, then on again.
2. Make sure you restart the camera after disconnecting the ethernet cable.
3. Try turning the camera off, and turning it on again.
4. Double-check your network settings both on the camera and on the iPhone, iPod, or
OverviewiPad.

Overview

Swing At'em is designed to work with the Axis M1011-w video camera.  This camera provides unique capabilities for providing streaming videos over a wireless connection.  This document will walk you through the steps of configuring your camera to work with the Swing At'em software.  Be aware that if you purchase your camera directly from us, we'll pre-configure it before we ship it and you will not have to do all of this yourself.
