Down the Line View - Setup

The setup point is where we will begin our annotations.  This is the point in time where the golfer has addressed the ball and is just about to begin their backswing.

After you've recorded your swing and have positioned it appropriately, you should make the following annotations as described.  The next few pages in this guide will explain how later points in the swing should be compared with your annotations.

Club Line (Red)

Trace your club shaft up and behind the golfer's back.  This line will be used to verify that your club is staying on plane, both on the backswing and through the swing itself.  Clubs should remain parallel to this line.

Shoulder Line (Blue)

Draw a line parallel to the club line and place on top of the shoulder.  Golfers should keep the club below this line throughout their swing.

Rear Line (Yellow)

Draw line vertical touching golfer's rear.  Golfer should try to keep their rear touching this line from setup and backswing to impact.  Failure to do so will cause the spine to come up and the club will get stuck on the downswing.

Spine Line (Purple)

Draw line and trace golfer's spine angle.  This reference line serves to show golfer if the spine is staying down or drifting up.

Head (Green)

Draw a circle around the golfer's head.  This servers the same purpose as the Spine Line and you may use either one.
